Update: Unfortunately Maddy was not able to compete in the beam finals on Sunday after a mishap on bars Saturday. But that means she finally gets to have a well-deserved breather and enjoy the sights in Singapore before heading home. We're looking forward to having you back Maddy! Take care of that lip.
Event Finals: Maddy, having qualified for three event finals, competed in the vault and bars final events Saturday (6:50 a.m. EST). She performed well on vault, with two solid vaults, and landed in fifth spot, just points out of a medal position. Unfortunately, a fall on a release move during her uneven bars routine forced her to stop part-way through. Her teeth punctured her lip and she required stitches. Still, she's a fighter and was still in good spirits. She was scheduled to compete in the beam finals Sunday morning at 6:50 a.m. EST, however, it was still uncertain whether she would participate. Watch for updates coming soon.

All-Around Competition : Maddy competed in the all-around on Thursday, starting off strong in vault and bars, but an unfortunate fall on beam and floor, landed her in 13th spot overall out of 18. But we're still proud of Maddy's impressive showmanship, composure and dedication. What an achievement.

Results from Russia Voronin Cup 2009:
Two Cambridge Kips national gymnasts showed they can compete among the world’s best at a prestigious international competition held in Moscow.
Madeline Gardiner and Victoria Moors represented Canada in the annual Mikhail Voronin Cup in Russia in Dec. 17. Despite facing nearly 40 competitors from around the globe in the meet’s day one, all-around competition, Gardiner was 10th overall and Moors was 15th. Individually, Gardiner was 10th on vault 12th on bars, 30th on beam and seventh on floor, while Moors was seventh on vault, 33rd on bars, ninth on beam and fourth on floor.
In event finals the following day, Gardiner qualified for three event finals and gave top performances, winning a silver medal on vault and bronze medals on bars and floor. Moors, who arrived in Russia ill but managed to compete, qualified for two event finals – floor and beam – but only competed beam, placing eighth.
It was a whirlwind month for the Cambridge gymnasts as they competed in Elite Canada just days before heading to Russia. Gardiner and Moors, both named to the Canadian team, are scheduled next to compete at Gymnix International in Montreal in the new year.

Six Kips qualify for Elite Canada
Five Cambridge Kips gymnasts have earned the chance to compete on the national stage at Elite Canada after giving strong performances at the Tour Selection competition in Mississauga last weekend.
Moving up to the national stream’s junior category, former provincial and national novice champion Victoria Moors finished the meet in second spot all-around, missing first place by 0.2 points. She won gold in floor, silver in vault, bronze in beam and placed fourth on beam. Moors also garnered a $500 travel bursary from Gymnastics Ontario.
Four of the club’s gymnasts made the jump to the national level for the first time in the competition’s novice national division. Abby Stacey, Kirsten Peterman, Shae Book and Helen Gomes earned qualifying scores to compete in the prestigious Elite Canada to be held in Oakville in mid-December.Stacey, who won the provincial championship title in level 9 last year, finished the meet in fourth place overall, first in beam, third in floor and 11th in vault and bars.
However, she was ultimately awarded the all-around bronze medal and given a $250 bursary after a gymnast from Quebec was bumped out of the top three spots, as out-of-province competitors aren’t eligible for the top-three bursaries in the Ontario qualifier. Landing in eighth spot overall at the competition was Peterman, who was fifth on vault, sixth on floor, eight on bars and ninth on beam. Gomes took 10th overall, sixth on bars, 11th on floor and 12th on vault and beam. Book was 14th all-around, taking sixth on floor, eighth on vault, 12th on bars and 19th on beam.
Competing in the National Open category for the time, the club's Rebecca Hisey gave strong performances, narrowly missing a medal on bars, taking fourth spot. She also placed sixth on vault, ninth on beam, 13th on floor to take 10th spot all-around.
Representing Kips in the meet’s provincial levels were Rachel Stapleton, Rachael Kuntz and Stephanie Jackson. In the level 8, 14 years and up division, Stapleton was 14th in overall scoring, 11th on floor and beam 12th on vault and 13th on bars, while Kuntz was 35th oval, ninth on vault, 19th on floor and 27th on bars and beam. Competing the in level 7, 14 years and up category, Jackson was 16th in overall scoring, 10th on floor, 12th on vault, 13th on bars and 16th on beam.Stapleton, Kuntz and Jackson will join other Cambridge Kips provincial gymnasts in the first qualifier of the competition season to be held in Burlington at the end of the month.
Immediately following the Elite Canada competition, Moors and Kips’s Maddy Gardiner, who earned a bye to Elite Canada because she was competing at the Junior Pan American Championships, will be leaving for an international competition in Russia.
